British Police Sword

Gents,

This is an example of an early British Police Sword worn by various UK law enforcement agencies during the 1800s.  This short sword has a slightly curved wide blade that is etched with the maker name of "Parker, Field, & Son / 233 High Hilborn, London"  This firm name was used from 1842 to 1849 when it changed slightly.  The sword does not have a retaining button in the guard which seems to also indicate this time period as later examples generally had a scabbard retention button.  The grip is sharkskin and these brass swords were made without a wire wrap.  Some swords of this style were etched with their department name but this one is not.
