mikie Posted June 22, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2020 This belt was attached to a perfectly normal US canteen cover that I was after. But this belt isn't anything perfectly normal as far as I can tell. The material seems to be a British P37 type belt, but the hardware is US style. There are no markings anywhere, on the cloth or metal. My research hasn't found anything to ID it so lets see if someone here knows what the heck it is. My guess is that it may be some surplus item? Thanks for looking! Mikie
Old Marine Posted June 25, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2020 It could be British made. During the war Britain made US musette bags, map cases, canteen covers and other US web gear.
mikie Posted June 25, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted June 25, 2020 Somebody on USMF says it is Iraqi. But I haven't been able to confirm it. Which brings up the possibility of it being some kind of euroclone or mideastclone? Thanks for looking. Mikie
iron bender Posted June 27, 2020 Share #4 Posted June 27, 2020 Lots of these belts came home from Iraq in 1991-92 time frame. I'm sure more came home in our recent endeavors in the ME. It's not WW2 BM.
mikie Posted June 27, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted June 27, 2020 I've been looking into Iraqi equipment since you ID'd the belt. Not an area I am familiar with at all. It looks like they used an enormous variety of equipment from all over the place. They must have just bought whatever was for sale. Mind boggling. Nkomo Posted May 16, 2021 Share #6 Posted May 16, 2021 Agreed. Looks Iraqi to me.
