Digi-Shots Posted September 26, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2020 A friend of mine recently got this cap. Can anyone help identify the era when it might have been used? Thanks
patches Posted September 27, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 27, 2020 So far the only French Navy ship we found was a Bougainville class Sloop, La Perouse, but it was never laid down and was cancelled altogether on it because of the defeat of France
patches Posted September 27, 2020 Share #3 Posted September 27, 2020 Maybe one of the two mentioned at te bottom, under Historic Ships? https://military.wikia.org/wiki/Jean-François_de_Galaup,_comte_de_Lapérouse
Digi-Shots Posted September 27, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted September 27, 2020 I did find one ship with that name that was built in 1919... The bullion cap badge looks hand sewn and appears to be silver? Most photos I’ve seen show the anchor in gold. Any idea of value on this cap? Thanks! vostoktrading Posted October 3, 2020 Share #7 Posted October 3, 2020 Laid down on 11 June 1985 and launched on 15 November 1986, the hydrographic vessel Lapérouse entered into service on 20 April 1988.

That cap in the OP wouldn't be for that 1980s vessel would it? That cap looks old.
vostoktrading Posted October 5, 2020 Share #9 Posted October 5, 2020 I believe this sort of bachi was worn well after WW2. It does seem to be out of place for 1986 on though. I couldn't find any other Lapérouse other than the ones already mentioned. Possibly the tally is not original to this cap.
