Ben@HI Posted November 3, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2020 These were with some rotted black silk wrapping and disintegrating Ray skin. My guess is that was all that was left of a rotten handle. They look older to me, I like how they wrapped some of the brass washers with silver.
SARGE Posted November 6, 2020 Share #2 Posted November 6, 2020 The short tubular fitting at the bottom looks like a fuchi or ferrule while the flat washers are various seppa that act as spacers at the guard. A variety of these are always good to have around to tighten up loose fittings on the guard of a Shin-gunto sword. These did not come off of a single sword but are a collection of parts from various swords.
Ben@HI Posted November 7, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted November 7, 2020 That makes sense, I was looking at the skin and thinking the handle must have been 18"+ long to use all the pieces of it that were left and it looked like the texture of the skin didn't match either. I used to find sword parts out here pretty regularly, mostly tsuba's. I would always wonder what happened to the blade. It's funny but I've never found just a blade. I've found almost every other part by it's self but never just a blade. I assume that what I was finding were leftover parts from a restoration.
