French Yellow Arm Band

I picked this arm band up with several other items as a kid (20+ years ago).  I have no clue what it is.  May not even be military related.  I have searched online and have not been able to find another one like it.  I've cross posted on the US Militaria site.  I hope the pictures post.  Any input is much appreciated!

i had something similar to this but its french i would show them but can't find them right now

This is definitely French. Early examples appeared during WW1, and they were still in use in the 70s or even 80s. I guess your example is from the Algeria War era (1954-62). I do not know what the yellow color means. It is a very common item.
