Wartime Propaganda Kamishibai (paper plays; 国策紙芝居)

This was an interesting video on Youtube about kamishibai.  Before the modern age of television, street performers would entertain children with "paper plays"... a narrated series of pictures shown frame by frame.

As with many things, this innocent art form was coopted to serve the purposes of the militarists in preparing both children and adults for the rigors and sacrifices of war.

The narration on this is a bit dry, but the imagery of this wartime artwork is worth viewing for those interested in the Japanese homefront during the war.
