austin_militaria Posted March 23, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2021 This was a strange pickup at a local flea market last weekend. Nothing else military and the owner had no history of it. Unfortunately it is not named. Is there a specific pattern date to this style hat? Link to comment

I would expect World War One vintage to 1920s or 30s, great find and in excellent condition well done. Look after it and store it with supports so as not to place strain on the peak. thanks Tony Link to comment
Kia kaha Posted March 24, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2021 For support I use a cheap pot plant pot, trim the bottom to size that fits the hat, pad with acid free paper as needed, this will ensure the peak remains with the hat and will support the head band. if I use a poly head I’ll cover it with acid free paper or a disposable coverall and a bit of old cloth Link to comment
austin_militaria Posted March 24, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted March 24, 2021 Thank you. I have added some tissue up around the crown to help support it. Link to comment
austin_militaria Posted March 24, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted March 24, 2021 Amazing how it changes shape and style when it is properly supported. Link to comment

Yes try to keep it so the peak is flying free that is not touching the shelf and the hat is supported by the head band. When the Generals removed their headdress they put them upside down and then they had a bucket for their gloves. Link to comment
austin_militaria Posted March 24, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted March 24, 2021 Any idea why the center of the insignia is blue? Most I have seen are more black in color. Link to comment

The “black” is a very dark blue called blue black, your one has faded a bit I think? Medical Corps maybe another reason. Link to comment
