gwb123 Posted March 28, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2021 An interesting video on Youtube.com giving an overview of small arms, tanks, artillery and aircraft still in use by the current Vietnamese military. Many of these items would be museum pieces in the US today. But it looks like, with the exception of aircraft, much of it is still up and running. You might find some of the comments interesting. There is the share of political dribble, but there are also comments that if true add additional details to this topic.
gwb123 Posted March 28, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted March 28, 2021 A few screen shots. M113's in use in the 70's and more recently at a firing range. Note the addition of Soviet heavy machine gun on the second photo. Per the video these vehicles are so numerous, the PAVN has taken to manufacturing replacement parts. gwb123 Posted March 28, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted March 28, 2021 M47 and M48 tanks in showroom condition. Per the video, these were taken from front line service for lack of spares. But apparently they have enough of them running to keep them on hand as a ready reserve.
gwb123 Posted March 28, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted March 28, 2021 The F5's provided service for a few significant years, but also were grounded for a lack of spares. The video shows Soviet footage of a captured F5 squaring off with trials against M-21's. The Russians concluded it was superior in certain respects. The UH-1's on the other hand continued in service until only recently.
gwb123 Posted March 28, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted March 28, 2021 Crew drilling with an 155mm howitzer of US origin. And of course... M16's are still maintained by the thousands for second tier forces. I hope you find the video interesting.
