WWII or even real?

I've seen this on a local site for about a month.  The price keeps coming down to where if it's legit, seems like a deal.  But all I have to go on are the pictures.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Seller describes it as a Japanese grenade holder.

I think its a Chinese SKS ammo pouch. relatively common.

I've moved this to the NVA/VC Field Gear section.

 

It is a common mistake for Sellers to identify items like this as WWII Japanese.

 

Looking at eBay, these seem to be running around $15 to $20 without any "bring back" provenance.

why not the China section? There is absolutely nothing to suggest this one ever even set foot in Vietnam.
