Fortunes Of War Posted May 19, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 19, 2021 This is an interesting tiger painted flag with additional artistic illustrations. Some of the characters are written in kanji, while some of it is written in hiragana. The majority of the hiragana comprises a poem. The illustrations (besides the tiger), are of a nicely dressed gentleman standing next to a street car. To the left of that is an illustration of the Japanese Imperial Palace. The flag is dedicated to Arai Seizaburo, while the poem and art are done by another relative from the same family, Arai Minoru. There are two red personal stamps, or inkan and they appear to both belong to Arai Minoru, who also painted the tiger. The contents of the poem say something like, "New Year's trolley train" by Arai Minoru.... "Passing by the Imperial Palace gates, says the conductor in the train, outside is a brilliant silvery snow scene; the passengers of the three day's of New Year's, quietly paying respect to the castle; all with happy smiles on their faces." I enjoy flags that are tiger painted and this rather folksy example is no exception. Thank you for looking...
