Fortunes Of War

This salty, silk and cotton 2-piece Imperial Japanese Good Luck Signed Flag measures approximately 27.5" high X 30." long. The white, age darkened background field has a few scattered holes. The center portion of the flag was originally cut out in a circle and the space was filled by a red cotton piece of material. That section was secured in place by a double row of stitches, sewn all the way around. Two piece flags are a bit more rare than the normal silk screened-type flags. The fly and hoist side edges have been strengthened by the addition of hem stitches. The corner tabs are securely sewn in place. These particular tabs were fashioned by using an additional large piece of white silk. The corners never appear to have had tie strings.

The flag was Presented to: Mr. Ichimura Yoshio. The slogan for Buun Chokyu or "May Your Military Fortunes Be Long Lasting" is found written near the ten o'clock position.  A large battle stain runs from the twelve down to the three o'clock position and then near the nine o'clock position as well.
