Japanese Hosho Medal of Honor on Yellow Ribbon - original 19th century?

This appears to be sterling silver. It came in a big batch of old militaria I picked up recently.  The Yellow Ribbon Merit Medal was created in the 1887 and the silver medal was given to someone who donated 5,000 yen to help fund coastal defenses.  Only 572 of these silver medals were awarded through 1894. The Yellow ribbon Hosho was discontinued in 1947 (but had not been issued since 1894) and brought back in 1955, albeit with a different style of ribbon.

Fortunes Of War

Bob-

That's a rare medal!  I have never seen this example for coastal defenses, thanks for sharing.
