Hi Everybody,

I please require your help on this helmet that a friend is offering me. I have no clue about these but I have read that there are tons of fakes out there. I collect all kinds of rare and interesting items and I would love to have this but only if it is original (which he swears it is). Anything you see that immediately raises a red flag or makes it suspicious? He wants $700 for it....

Many thanks for your help

Emily

the eagle looks like the gold colored kriegsmarine in that lighting. With the big slice through the eagle decal, the leather seems to be very dry as it's cracking in places and  with only half the chinstrap present and the condition.  The liner drawsting is not original. it is a nice helmet but I would pass at 700. But this is my opinion..

Emily, I moved this topic from Imperial / Weimar Republic helmets to the TR Helmets section for a better discussion.

I agree with daskrieg in his analysis of this TR helmet.  It is certainly original, except for the drawstring, but seems a bit overpriced from what I can tell.

Replaced drawstring, the liner looks to have been oiled and the decal is toned, not necessarily Kriegsmarine. For a single decal I don't see $700 as overpriced. If it is in fact a KM SD its a good price. To each their own.

Hi friend. Does not look like a KM to me at all. Better pics would help but I am pretty certain.  It Looks like a nice untouched Heer M40 though which are getting harder to find. When I get a new helmet I often ask for pictures of the pins inside to make sure they have all their corresponding washers complete and they aren’t re-bent. These are indicators that the liner is original to the helmet. I prefer untouched / unmessed with helmets so if the liner has been replaced it is a no no for me. That said. It’s just a personal preference. From the looks of the outside. Looks Uncleaned as well. Something I look for when purchasing a helmet. Good luck!
