Proud Kraut Posted September 23, 2021 #1 Posted September 23, 2021 Just wanted to let you know that the ranks Korporal and Stabskorporal (OR-4) are introduced by the Bundeswehr these days. With these 2 new ranks there´s a total of 8 different enlisted men ranks in the German armed forces. Korporal and Stabskorporal are no NCOs but will receive same payment as a Stabsunteroffizier. Here are some drawings showing the new Bundeswehr enlisted men rank structure.
Proud Kraut Posted September 23, 2021 Author #2 Posted September 23, 2021 The new rank insignia were authorized by presidential order on August, 30th 2021. I haven´t seen a real one yet but will post it, when available. Here´s a drawing of the new rank insignia for the battle dress (right shoulder loop). Korporal on the left, Stabskorporal on the right.
Proud Kraut Posted January 18, 2022 Author #3 Posted January 18, 2022 And here are the original shoulder loops for the BDU. Korporal on the left, Stabskorporal on the right.
SARGE Posted January 19, 2022 #4 Posted January 19, 2022 Are the new Korporal rank soldiers supervisors or is the rank just a new pay grade? Some US Corporal ranks can exercise supervision in the absence of a NCO.
Proud Kraut Posted January 19, 2022 Author #5 Posted January 19, 2022 No, it´s a new paygrade, they are not supervisors.
S.ChrisKelly Posted August 17, 2025 #6 Posted August 17, 2025 "The Bundeswehr introduced the new ranks Korporal and Stabskorporal in October 2021 for enlisted personnel. These ranks are senior to Oberstabsgefreiter and offer a higher pay grade (A6), equivalent to the NCO rank Stabsunteroffizier. This change aims to make the enlisted career path more attractive by rewarding performance and responsibility. The introduction of Korporal and Stabskorporal was designed to create a more appealing career path for enlisted soldiers by offering a higher pay grade (A6) and increased responsibility. These ranks sit above Oberstabsgefreiter and are equivalent to the NCO rank Stabsunteroffizier in terms of pay grade. To be considered for promotion to Korporal, soldiers must have served at least three years as an Oberstabsgefreiter. The rank insignia for Korporal and Stabskorporal were authorized on August 30, 2021, and officially introduced in September 2021. While they receive the same pay as Stabsunteroffizier, Korporal and Stabskorporal are not considered Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs)." Source: AI response, Google. S.ChrisKelly Posted August 17, 2025 #8 Posted August 17, 2025 In the U.S. Army, E-4 is an NCO, as it is in the U.S.N. & U.S.C.G. {Petty Officer Third Class}, but not in the U.S.A.F {Senior Airman} or U.S.S.F. {Specialist 4}.
