Post says this is a IV crew Normandy 44. I can post the whole pic if wanted.

Anyhow, interesting mod of an FJ jump smock into an armor crewman jacket...

He is also wearing a neat "crusher" style peaked cap with cloth insignia.  The other officer seen over his left shoulder is wearing his M-43 black Panzer Offizier cap with alum piping.

Panzer Lehr, 2nd Panzer Division, 116th Panzer Division, these Panzer Divisions operated near all those Parachute Divisions, the 3rd, 5th and 6th Parachute Divisions against the Americans on the Western side on Normandy, so maybe he got the smock from them???

Another example in Normandy, unit and date unknown, in this case the Camouflage Luftwaffe Smock as worn by other Ground personnel, Feld Divisions, Flak units etc, here the Army Officer hasn't removed the Luftwaffe Eagle.

Great photo, would love to see whole photo, so please do post it.

What you cannot see here in this image is that the smock is cut down. There is 1 other photo of him, possibly two showing this modification.

I will see if I can find it in my files.

Here they are.

The series was taken by Kriegsberichter Karl Müller.

The Panzer IV Ausf. H and its crew were of the 22nd Pz. Regt., 21st Pz. Division resting outside 50, Boulevard des Belges, Rouen, France, late in the afternoon of the (*25th of August 1944.) This area was were many German units escaping the collapse of the Normandy Front were caughting crossing the Siene River. This crew is said to have successfully made it across before the Allies bombed the area packed with units attempting to successfully cross the river as they waited their turn.

Colorised however part of the 3 that appear from this roll.

This is a great example of how u can’t dismiss something that is not textbook.  Imagine if someone came I. With this in their hand.  It would be laughed out if the room.  Soldiers past and present always make mods to their uniforms that is not standard.

Colonel Andreas Maria Karl von Aulock Commandant of Fortress St Malo, he's wearing a Parachute Smock one too, and with the Air Force Eagle still on it, Von Aulock with GIs of the U.S. 83rd Infantry Division after he very reluctantly surrendered the City.
