1/6 scale German Paratrooper figure & Herman Meyer hat

While I was working on my Herman Goring Division Tank officer(see my post Luftwaffe Tanker in the Modeling section), my buddy sends me this 1/6 scale figure of a German paratrooper figure.  He knows about my interest in the Italian Campaign, so he thought I would like to add this figure to my group of GI's.  He had also sent me a Luftwaffe paratrooper figure as well.  I know you don't believe me when I say (and said in my other post about the figure I painted) that I do not collect Nazi stuff.  My friend thought that if I had two GI's figures then I need a German or two.

The figure is a German Fallschirmjager (aka paratrooper) dressed as they were for the raid on Gran Sasso, Italy, to re-capture Mussolini. He wears the jump smock and the “Herman Meyer” cap and carrying an FG42 machine gun.  The tropical Herman Meyer hat, or 'tropenschirmmutze", was popular among the Herman Goring Division unit.

My buddy also included a reproduction of the Herman Meyer hat.  Sewn into the hat is a neck covering that is rolled up and stored out of the way.

I forgot who makes this figure.  The box is in storage.  It is not as flexible as some of the better ones and some of the material and equipment is not as good either.  For example the Meyer hat is made of hard plastic---I admit that it would be difficult to fabricate a good cloth version.

I couldn't get him to sit down.  But this photo shows the details of the FG42 that was a light version of the MG42 made for the paratroopers.

The Paratrooper figure and hat makes a great display but it takes up too much space.  I sold the hat but I am keeping the figure.  One day my GI will get off his arse and go capture him.

A GI of 29th Division made by Dragon--much nicer.
His uniform is typical for the Italian Campaign, so I painted over the decal.
I printed the YANK magazine & the map to scale.

yes the 29th InfDiv GI looks much more realistic

I bought another figure who was a radio operator and the kit came with a reduced Osprey booklet ---about 6 pages--- that detailed the duties of a radio operator.  The figure came with an M-1 Carbine and an SCR300 "Walkie-Talkie" Radio and carrying rack.

A .50 caliber round might sub for a 105mm Howitzer round.
This figure came with extra hands in case you didn't want him wearing gloves.

Two Civil War figures from different manufacturers---applying finishing touches to my cannon kit I built from scratch.
The figure on the left was a Confederate officer in a regulation uniform which I was changing to a Western theater mis-match uniform.

Wow, these look super realistic.

Some of those figures go for $80 ---but I haven't been shopping much so probably $100 now.   That Reb on the left was decked out in the regulation uniform that you would see a Virginia officer wearing.  I wanted to represent a Western Theater soldier in the rugged cavalry.  I bought an extra shirt and hats for him and the other soldier.  I bought the outfit that came on a Zombie fantasy figure and that vest he is wearing really looked good.  I ended up repainting the hat and trying to shape it more like a "beehive" slouch hat---not seen in the above photo.

When I searched for this Reb Officer, I lucked out.  After I bought it, they became rare and hard to find.  They may be back in production.

Here is how he looked out of the box---with a hard plastic Kepi.  Those cloth kepi's look just awful.
