Fortunes Of War Posted January 24, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2022 This 1000 Stitch Belt is made from a heavy silk material that is now age-toned to a cream color. The senninbari measures approximately 5.50″ high X 51.5″ long, not including the tie strings. A rising sun design in red knots is displayed across the front-center of the senninbari; a stitch filling each pre-printed red dot. In between the red and white rays are five, red kanji characters for the popular slogan Ki Buun Chokyu, or “I Pray Your Military Fortunes Are Long Lasting”. Near the middle of the red sun, a 5-sen good luck coin was afixed with red cotton thread. I really enjoy these colorful examples of senninbari! jangle Posted January 24, 2022 Share #3 Posted January 24, 2022 A beautiful example! It's nice to know that even 80 years ago these folks gave it some thought about their senninbari.
Fortunes Of War Posted January 24, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted January 24, 2022 Thank you for the comments guys! When I think about 1000 stitch belts I think about the plain white ones with red knots; the tiger belts with kanji characters for Buun Chokyu; or this type with the rising sun. It's always an added bonus when they sew a 5 or 10-sen coin to the front as well!
