Here is an M35 that was repainted at some point. The decals were not painted but the tri color was painted at a later date with a different shade if paint.

There is something written on the liner

It looks like the original liner as all the rivets appear to be untouched. I only show a picture of one washer but it is fair representation of all three. They all appear to be untouched. The rivet heads all have matching paint to each other and the helmet.

Does anyone know when German soldiers started to paint over the pea green?

It's a nice helmet with an early liner band.

The liner band is split right at the chin strap bail, is this how they were made?

I got this at auction for 410.00

No.  That was a weak point.  They improved the design around about 1938-1939.

This helmet looks like it was a complete overpaint, that was stripped to reveal the decals.

This was common in the 1970’s.

Thank you for your comment and I appreciate your point of view. I have seen helmets of the type you mention. Most likely it’s my poor photography but when you see it in person you can see eagle was never painted over and the tri color is still covered. There are no signs of decals being raised like smudged paint, paint treated with an abrasive or paint discoloration. Remember those old timers used Comet, sand paper or paint remover, all of which leave evidence that I don’t see on this example. You were right to bring the subject up.

I somehow messed up the last post but my reply is in there, you have to expand it.
