Infanterie Regiment 220 was part of the 58. Infanterie Division. The Regiment was renamed Grenadier Regiment 220 in October 1942. (Source: Lexikon der Wehrmacht)

Very hard to make out exactly what it says. Looks like they are covering the stained glass of a church in the background. Their final resting place.

Usually, in the German Army, banging on metal was the sign for a gas attack.   Is he sounding the alarm or letting everyone know it’s dinner time ? Any idea what the sign says? Notice his wound badge.

Thanks for posting more pictures! 1st part of the sign is hard to decipher but it´s most likely "Alarmglocke" (alarm bell).
