daskrieg Posted March 30, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 30, 2022 Can anyone translate the kanji and is this real?
Tonomachi Posted March 31, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 31, 2022 According to a friend of mine the left side says "Okinawa" but the right side doesn't make any sense. The characters aren't Kanji but one of the three lower Japanese language alphabets called Katakana. Katakana is usually used in the Japanese written language for describing foreign words like the English word baseball which they pronounce as basubaru and the Okinawans originally had their own language separate from Japanese although most Okinawans now speak Japanese. The Japanese also use Katakana when referring to Okinawan words. I have no idea why Okinawa is written upon a Japanese flag.

Gwar Posted March 31, 2022 Share #4 Posted March 31, 2022 Perhaps it could be one of these type of 'Souvenir's", the Katakana looks spray painted..

Gwar Posted April 3, 2022 Share #7 Posted April 3, 2022 Apparently you didn't get my drift, I think it's a faked up piece.
daskrieg Posted April 3, 2022 Author Share #8 Posted April 3, 2022 No i got your drift but even the "GI" trade flags are worth something. But it looks like it was "tea'd" to get the aging. No i did not buy it....
