Found in tiny shop in Maine USA, IJA troopship torpedoed by USS Pompano in 1942, Pompano subsequently lost in 1943

I hate to keep doing this to you but that is not the only Atsuta Maru there is also one built in 2012 (you can see it here https://www.balticshipping.com/vessel/imo/9615391 ) You may find even more, ship name are often used over and over. That life ring is in good condition and the International Orange color make me think it is newer than WWII.

The 2012 ship was turned up with only a quick google search with more time spent you may well find that there were other ships with that name between WWII and 2012. International orange was not used until the 1950s but it is your life ring and it can be what you want it to be.
