patches Posted June 21, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2022 Yes I think that's what these are. And for the Ladies Team.
SARGE Posted June 21, 2022 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2022 Great uniform photographs. I have stood on those same spots in the Olympic stadium.
Preppy Picker Posted June 21, 2022 Share #3 Posted June 21, 2022 Love the hats the men are wearing. One of them would look great in my collection. What the flip is this!

SARGE Posted June 23, 2022 Share #8 Posted June 23, 2022 Great Olympic uniform photographs. This is a 1957er medal grouping of a career policeman (who wore this uniform), Gunter Ortmann, who started out as a Schutzpolizei Leutnant before the war and served with the 4th W-SS Polizei Division on the Russian Front. He rose to the rank of W-SS Major in the Police Division by 1945 and continued service in the West German Police after 1948 rising to the rank of Polizei-Direktor. The kicker is that he was also a Gold Medal winner in the 1936 Olympics and the 1938 World Games. His Olympic Gold Medal was awarded in this stadium in Field Handball. Also, notice he was awarded the Gold Honor Clasp to the IC and the gold wound badge.
Preppy Picker Posted June 23, 2022 Share #9 Posted June 23, 2022 He was also in 30 consecutive days of hand to hand combat. No wonder he received the gold wound badge.
SARGE Posted June 24, 2022 Share #10 Posted June 24, 2022 Yes, he is mentioned several times in the official three volume unit history, "In Good Faith" by Friedrich Husemann. He was mentioned in dispatches for 24 hour resistance and eventual breakout at the 2nd Ladoga Battle on 20/1/43 where he received a commendation. Of course the gold Honor Roll Clasp was only superseded by the Knight's Cross award and the gold Wound Badge ended his athletic career. Interestingly, he was head of the Police Sports Training program when he finally retired so he kept sport in his life and career to the end. Preppy Picker Posted June 24, 2022 Share #11 Posted June 24, 2022 The war between the Germans and the Russians has to be one of the most devastating battle grounds in history. Not only did it last for years, the Germans actually had men who fought hand to hand every day for 45 days. I can’t imagine the stress and fear involved in such a lifestyle.
