GAP Posted July 14, 2022 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2022 Are these wings real or repop? If real, what era? Any opinions on value would also be appreciated. The half wings are padded. Thanks.
Tonomachi Posted July 15, 2022 Share #2 Posted July 15, 2022 Your first piece is an early WW2 era British paratrooper wing which is in mint condition having never been trimmed down. These are getting harder and harder to find so my guess is that they would sell for a couple of hundreds of dollars or more. Your RAF aircrew badges (B for Bomb Aimer, RO might be Radio Operator & N for Navigator) look original but they were also worn post war so I don't enough about them to determine age or value. Tony A Posted January 6, 2023 Share #3 Posted January 6, 2023 I agree with Tonomachi. The Para wing is a great find. The RAF wings appear to be post war 1950s/1960s manufacture and were in use up to the 1970s. The RO badge is in fact 'Radar Operator', which was a short lived wing introduced in 1942 with the advent of radar equipment on RAF aircraft. It was withdrawn from use very quickly as captured personnel wearing it were at risk of severe interrogation in relation to the secret equipment. I have been privileged to see and handle many original period examples of RAF wings and the backing materials on these are not what I would expect from WW2 items. As far as value goes, wings of this type of manufacture can be expected to sell for circa 20-30 GBP. Best Regards Tony
