german flag, help needed

is this legit?  Is this a regular flag or one for a vehicle? 

 

Im new to this stuff any help would be greatly apricated 

for some reason the flag looks pink in the photos, in person it is red

Seems fine to me, too. Although I do not quite know what to make of the hand sewn appearing alteration (in black thread) along the white edge. A later repair of some sort? Maybe it was cut off of whatever it was originally attached to?

 

This sort of flag, based on its shape, is called a Wimpel in German (meaning pennant). They were used on certain vehicles, as decorations in a string of them, etc.
