Hello,

Can anyone point me in the direction of who were the ribbon manufacturers and/or suppliers for DDR awards, both military and civil?

Does anyone have a source for NOS DDR ribbon?

Thank you,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

While I do not know who the ribbon manufacturers and/or suppliers were during the period the DDR existed, a lot of their surplus was bought up by Sturm which sells them on this website (Sturm USA): https://sturm-miltec.com/. I did not find ribbons by themselves there but they sell several awards that have the ribbon/medal combo and the separate accompanying ribbon signifying the award they went with (sold as sets), beginning here: https://sturm-miltec.com/page/12/?s=east+german&&post_type=product. Not sure if that is what you are looking for though. You can also enter "East German" into the search function of Sturm's website to see what else they have.

Something else to try is German eBay at https://www.ebay.de/. Enter your search term(s) in German and perhaps what you are seeking will pop up there.

I have a few East German pieces but there are folks here far more knowledgeable about it all than I am. Hopefully they will chime in with more information.

Good luck in your search.

Hi Kevin,

Sturm is probably your best bet.  Gowen had a ton of stuff but closed down.  Hessen Antiques still has DDR stuff and a website.

Bear in mind that some ribbon bars were made with paper renditions of the ribbon so the bars are somewhat hard to come by.

Thanks, Gents!

I don't know how it has taken me so long to respond to these messages, but I certainly thank you for your replies!

I will try and reach out to Sturm soon.  I am trying to bolster the inventory of the OMSA Ribbon Bank for DDR ribbon.  It is an area that is definitely under represented.
