Jose Posted September 14, 2022 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2022 I have this sword that I am trying to identify. The closest sword I can find would be an British East Indian style but unable to find one similar to mine. Possibly late 1700 or early 1800. Any advise or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I have other pictures but this all I can upload.

sundance Posted September 14, 2022 Share #3 Posted September 14, 2022 Well, that lion's head certainly points to it being English. Nice looking blue and gilt.

Preppy Picker Posted September 15, 2022 Share #5 Posted September 15, 2022 Arabic? Certainly a beautiful blade and sword.
qed4 Posted September 16, 2022 Share #6 Posted September 16, 2022 The odd symbols on the blade make me wonder if it isn't a lodge sword rather than a military sword.
Preppy Picker Posted September 16, 2022 Share #7 Posted September 16, 2022 These are Islamic crescent symbols. It even has a Mameluke look to it.

dunmore1774 Posted September 23, 2022 Share #10 Posted September 23, 2022 possibly British made for the Turkish/Arabic market- I've seen many British flintlock pistols made for this trade with similar motifs. From the style, I'd guesstimate Napoleonic era? I have a sword of that period with the almost exact same lion head
Jose Posted September 26, 2022 Author Share #11 Posted September 26, 2022 I've googled Islamic, Arabic, French, English, and Turkish, found some similar to what I have but not exactly. I have emailed London museums and was directed to U.S. museums but still nothing. This forum has been the most helpful so far. The sword is 37" long, the handle is about 5 and 1/2" long. Preppy Picker Posted September 26, 2022 Share #12 Posted September 26, 2022 Go to a major show and cradle it on your shoulder, you’ll get some attention. Do you have a scabbard?
Jose Posted September 27, 2022 Author Share #13 Posted September 27, 2022 No scabbard.
Blade69 Posted December 22, 2022 Share #14 Posted December 22, 2022 Looks like a tourist item to me don't know of any military swords that use markings like that. Usually ceremonial swords will have floral etching but that blade has a bit of everything.
