French or Italian Mystery Kepi

Good Afternoon,  I picked this up from an Antique dealer in Italy thinking it was Italian however after many hours of trawling through photos and forums it seems to be constructed like one of the French m1915 cap variants without ventilation grommets. I have less idea now what this is and where it's from than when i started and am certain it has seen field service owing to the state of the interior and modification to the inside front sweat band. If anyone can give me a hard answer as to it's provenance I would be grateful.
