Ben@HI Posted October 15, 2022 Share #1 Posted October 15, 2022 This is a pretty uncommon sword, WW2 Japanese Army Civilian Employee Sword. As near as I can put together it was brought back by a Colonel who was with the 11th airborne during the occupation of japan. I picked up several swords from his estate. Most of what he brought back where traditional nihanto.

Im a novice who wants to know I'm not much more than a novice myself. From what I have read and been told the gunzoku ( army civilian) swords have a lack of cherry blossoms on the handle hardware and mountings and this version of tsuba or another that is in the same style but with bamboo leaves instead of flowers. The sword blade is nothing old or special, ww2 production and not traditionaly made. For comparison here is the army civilian sword next to a normal type 98 shi-gunto.
