1808 silhouette

Recommended Posts

Silhouettes were an important part of portraiture in earlier days; here is one I picked up some time ago. I was told it was a British general officer. It is artist signed, P. Scott. I have not been able to locate him and would appreciate any info you might have, both on the artist and any comments on the silhouette. Cased as it is, I assume it was meant to be carried by a loved one. New to this forum and looking forward to participating. Thank you for any information you can provide. All the best,

That's an absolutely fabulous find! I've been doing some looking and not able (so far) to turn up anything on this artist. It's perfect timing for the Peninsular War and was a very active time in the British Army.

Have you tried to lift the framed part out of the case to see if there is a slip of paper in the back or anything that might help with the identification?
