Bill Scott Posted February 19, 2023 #1 Posted February 19, 2023 Can anyone tell me who used these boards I have no clue. Thank You for looking and your help.
patches Posted February 20, 2023 #2 Posted February 20, 2023 Its a stumper for sure, checked the Merchant Marine, no go, then the Naval Academy, again nothing.
St.Lukas Posted February 23, 2023 #3 Posted February 23, 2023 not a design I recognize. I suspect cherry blossoms and other insignia might of been added. Could always be post war Japanese defense force. Please show us reverse of boards
SV1976 Posted August 20, 2025 #4 Posted August 20, 2025 Civilians attached to the navy took a lot of liberty's when it came to their uniforms. They also had the money to make this happen. Could be a case of that.
SV1976 Posted August 24, 2025 #5 Posted August 24, 2025 An identical single just landed on ebay. Hap hazard application of the tress is very Japanese civilian attached to the navy and merchant marine style. Imo these are period Japanese no question. I happened to have an image of the back of the subject boards when they were running on ebay awhile back. It's the same. They are hap hazard opened up to add the tress. If you pay attention to construction of these it's quite common to see period done.
