Pattern 49 Battledress with a U.S. patch?

I bought this because it was cheap and in decent shape. But isn’t that a US Army 4th Army patch? Any legitimate reason for it to be there? I suppose it could have been added at any time by anyone. Opinions welcome! Thanks!

Usually when you see these 49 pattern BDs with US insignia, it is because someone has added WWII insignia to them either to reenact with or to sell to someone who doesn't have knowledge of what they are buying. In this case, I would guess that the patch was simply added to a blank jacket. It wouldn't belong there and does not enhance the value by being there. It would not have been worn by an American serving in the 4th Army, nor would it have been born by an British soldier.

One quick snip and this patch came right off (very, very poorly attached), no damage done.

Thats good, then it wasn't sewn all the way through?

No, one thread very loosely and sloppily stitched 1-2 times per side.

Yes that is good, if it was sewn all the way though, you would now have ghosting, on the inside, blemishes etc,
