Escapeguy Posted June 1, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 1, 2023 Can anyone ID this European style folding shovel? I don't see any markings at all. The leather carrier has studs instead of buckles to hold the shovel in place. Any chance its German WW2? Many thanks in advance. The tightening nut appears to be Bakelite.... earlymb Posted June 2, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 2, 2023 When folded, is the handle flush with the blade or at an angle?

earlymb Posted June 4, 2023 Share #4 Posted June 4, 2023 I think it's Dutch, post-WW2.

I believe that maybe an East German entrenching tool. The leather cover has the two rivets on the fold over straps. I attach images of the tool, a cover on its own and also a Dutch cover which is different. regards Gunner87

earlymb Posted June 8, 2023 Share #7 Posted June 8, 2023 I wasn't looking at the cover, but I think you are correct about the shovel being East-German.
SARGE Posted June 8, 2023 Share #8 Posted June 8, 2023 The Bakelite tightening nut was used by the East Germans. Not a very good idea because they tended to break.
