JoefromNewMexico Posted July 4, 2023 #1 Posted July 4, 2023 Hello friends! This is my first post on here. I had initially posted this on the US Militaria Forum, but realized the World Forum is a much more suitable place! I recently got this at an old antique shop here in northeastern New Mexican that hadn't been open for business in 20 years. It's marked "ET68" and "4865." From what I can look up, those seem to be model and batch numbers. It's signed by "Weinreich." I don't know much about these things' history. What's the story behind this thing? Does it have any monetary value? Is there any way of finding out who Weinreich was? Thanks!

I have tagged three in case the post drops down and not seen. Best regards Gunner.... @patches @Proud Kraut @SARGE
Preppy Picker Posted July 5, 2023 #3 Posted July 5, 2023 You have a German Army M40 single decal helmet. How many of the rivets are missing, at least one that I can see. With the liner and chinstrap condition I would say $500. There was probably more than one Weinreich in the German army so it will be very hard to solve that problem.

'ET' is the manufacturer being the 'Eisenhutten plant in Thalesize', '68' is the size and '4865' is the 'Lot Number' which represents the production run of the helmet. This link will take you to a useful website http://www.worldwartwohelmets.com/german.html Also this is a database of German hemet 'Lot Numbers' which maybe of use https://germanhelmetvault.com/lot-numbers-database/ Regards Gunner...
Mr.Jerry Posted July 5, 2023 #5 Posted July 5, 2023 Welcome! Nice amount of decal remaining that is a plus. some would replace the liner, but I prefer to just leave things "as found".
Proud Kraut Posted July 5, 2023 #6 Posted July 5, 2023 I don´t know if it is possible to find out more about the soldier without knowing more than the last name. Today about 4000 people in Germany have the same last name.
