SARGE Posted April 28, 2024 #3 Posted April 28, 2024 Nice earlier and later NCO swords. Are the serial numbers matching on the blades and scabbard throats?
ManInJapan Posted May 4, 2024 #5 Posted May 4, 2024 The last one appears to be a commissioned officer's shin-gunto. Have you removed the bamboo peg (mekugi) in the hilt (tsuka) to check the tang (nakago) for a signature (mei)?
Marine1058 Posted May 4, 2024 Author #6 Posted May 4, 2024 Not in several years. I’ll have to check it again.

If possible, please post photographs of the tang on both sides. Even if it's not signed we should be able to tell if it's an older blade at least.
Marine1058 Posted May 11, 2024 Author #8 Posted May 11, 2024 I finally had time to check. I had to carefully clean the rust off.
Marine1058 Posted June 1, 2024 Author #9 Posted June 1, 2024 I got the information on the tang markings from members of another site I am a member of.
Market garden Posted September 24, 2024 #12 Posted September 24, 2024 I have been collecting militaria for over 45 years. My main focus is WW2 Germany and my secondary is Imperial Japan. This is one of my better swords in IJN mounts. This came out of a pawn shop 25 years ago traded a post war Astra pistol ,holster and 200.00. The previous owner was a Navy CB. I knew his brother very well. Enjoy.
