ric123 Posted May 13, 2024 #1 Posted May 13, 2024 HI I am going to look at a early NCO sword. I was told it is early , matching numbers, and in nice condition. I know nothing about these can somebody tell me what I need to look for and a ballpark ragfe of value? thanks
SARGE Posted May 13, 2024 #2 Posted May 13, 2024 There are a couple of threads in this section on early and late NCO swords you should look at. The early NCO swords have metal grips with painted details simulating the cloth wrap on Officer swords. The blades are nicely polished for machine made "railroad" steel blades and they are serial numbered. These numbers should match those on the throat of the painted metal scabbard. Other details are dependent upon what factory made the sword and that information is stamped on the brass hilt near the guard. Condition is important to determine value but I see these swords sell in the neighborhood of $500. - $1,000. There are lots of these out there so don't jump on the first one that you see. Poor condition swords sell slowly while very nice ones will always sell.
Mr.Jerry Posted May 13, 2024 #3 Posted May 13, 2024 also watch out as there are some very convincing Chinese made reproductions out there, they look good from 6 feet away but when you get closer the details are poor, you see casting flaws, numbers marked oddly, etc.
