Picked up this helmet at antique store

Bought this German helmet in a South Dakota antique store. Someone painted it a wrong color and I am almost 100% sure the SS decal is fake. It is an original German helmet with marking HKP60. Should I strip the paint off and repaint with correct color?

Welcome to the forum.

 

According to the German Helmet Vault your manufacturer is 'Sächsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke' and hkp60 was a M40 'Heer' helmet so the decal is wrong.

It certainly doesn't look good, but it never hurts to bring this over to the WAF if you haven't already.
