theetatkuldiloke Posted August 16, 2024 #1 Posted August 16, 2024 Does anyone knows if this Prussian tunic is authentic or not? Got it for only $30.
themick Posted August 16, 2024 #2 Posted August 16, 2024 Looks like you got a great buy on an original tunic. Love the name tag. Steve

patches Posted August 17, 2024 #4 Posted August 17, 2024 It's a curious one, as it is a Bavarian one, not Prussian, the Prussian 4th Regiment is a Grenadier Regiment, Grenadier-Regiment König Friedrich der Große (3. Ostpreußisches) Nr. 4, can't find a image of their tunic, but it is wholly different in that they had Litzen on the collar and cuffs and a monogram on the shoulder straps, an FR II for Fridericus Rex der II. Now the curiousty, it does correctly list the unit on the tag, r. b. 4. Inft-Regt this being Königlich Bayerisches 4. Infantrie Regiment König Wilhelm von Württemberg, that's the way the Bavarians list their Infantry Regiments, not like the Prussian's and the rest. The rank is correct too, Infanterist that's what a Private is called in the Bavarian Army. But it's the color of the tunic, it's Dark Blue, Prussian Blue, Bavarian's tunic are Light Blue, is it Light Blue with the photos making it look a darker Blue??? Just for fun, a Soldier of the 4th Bavarian Infantry in 1707, note a far back then the Light Blue Uniform

BUT, pay more attention to the other responses. I suspect they know more than I. Steve

I don't know, here one from the 8th Bayer, sold on some auction back a ways, see it too has a darker shade than the 18th and 19th Century ones right. Two more here, perhaps by the 1890s, the shade was darker then traditional? https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/imperial-germany-austro-hungary/royal-bavarian-infantry-regiment-3-prince-karl-tunic-29624/
