Hi Guys

I recently purchased an :

Original WW2 Kriegsmarine embroidered breast eagle on felt backing.

Now it has arrived I am a bit skeptical... it looks new-ish, but then again it could be real just never used.

What do say? real issue?

Butlers Military & Vintage

Butler’s Military and Vintage is a retail outlet created in 2004, and set up in Normandy for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The retail premises in France have now closed, but we will continue to serve collectors worldwide by mail and also by appointment from our new premises in the UK. This website has been created solely for the original items that were on sale in the shop in Sainte Mere Eglise.

I have been dealing full time in militaria since 1982.

there is also an re-enactors sister site by same company, but this was purchased from the originals store.

Anyone else dealt with this company before?

any feedback would be great :)

PS. Furthermore I am realizing that it is very well made under microscopic examination which points to it NOT being a cheap repro, so im quite optimistic of its authenticity 🤔

Yeah,  I think after more research that it is good Mr Jerry.
I also read an article about the zig zag stitching being used in that era for more protection against fraying etc while washing. It seems Bevo style of machine woven…..thanks for your input Jerry, much appreciated🙏👍🏻

Well guys, it could be we have a bad actor on the scene with this store.

I go back to the store a few days later just to browse and see what else is on offer and come across the insignia picture of the one i bought, now its for 10 quid more...... now i understand you can have multiple of these insignias for sale, but this had the same description and the moth hole on the exact same spot LOL.... so am i the crazy one here or does that seem very unlikely, just those actions alone make me question his whole store!... I wont be returning, i suggest all stay away :)

if you stay away you may miss something good.

Just know what you are looking for.

The eagle looks good to me, could be that they were tied in a bundle and the moth went down the side giving all the eagles in the bundle a scar in the same place.

Did you ask the seller any questions?

Yes I know some things on the site do look legit and is quite a common practice to put repros around some authentic stuff unfortunately, but Again, seems highly unlikely a moth will stick to one path doesn’t it?

look, its the fact that it was ready to sell again, exact same everything (including damage), spider senses went up🤔🤔🤷‍♂️
I’ve sent emails. No response and looking back at the site, the products been taken down. It all seems fishy, so unless there is a response I’ll assume it’s a good repro.

Yeah guys, no responses and product taken down, AND after looking at some more on his site alongside reference books can see they have a whole bunch of fake insignias. STAY AWAY....

Oh well that was my first rip-off....glad it was only 80 quid......oh well, live and learn.🤷‍♂️
