WW2az44 Posted December 25, 2024 #1 Posted December 25, 2024 My gut is telling me this is most likely fake, but what do you all think? No tags or manufacture markings inside. There are some very faint writing on inside of it, but it is extremely faded. Just want to be sure, thank you.
Preppy Picker Posted December 25, 2024 #2 Posted December 25, 2024 The cut doesn’t conform to what you normally see on an army overseas cap and the aluminum piping usually has a material backing.

Honestly, it almost looks like a US Garrison cap with a heer patch sewn on
Nack Posted December 28, 2024 #4 Posted December 28, 2024 Hmm. Not sure. Idk it’s US, but I’d have picked it up too if cheap. I have a habit of doing that. Neat cap.

Proud Kraut Posted December 29, 2024 #6 Posted December 29, 2024 I can´t ID the exact color of ths "Schiffchen" on my PC screen. Is it mainly dark green or dark grey? However, my first thought was 1960´s Bundeswehr officer´s side cap but this would have a black/red/golden cockade instead of the black/white/red one. Dark grey side caps with silver piping were worn by Bw Army officers from the 1960´s until the early 1980´s. The darker the grey color the earlier the cap. Countless variations do exist. Pictures of a late 1970´s light grey variation for comparison. I will see if I can dig out a dark grey one as well.

That’s very interesting, if that’s the case the only thing I could think of why the German Heer patch is on there is because somebody tried to fake it themselves.
Marshallj Posted December 31, 2024 #8 Posted December 31, 2024 Here are East and West German enlisted caps. The pattern is close to the East German style. The insignia is easily replaced.
