Real or fake WWII German skull canteen type ring?

Hello,

I normally do not chase this type or artifact. But the price is right, so if is an original I will likely snag it.  I know there are some serious fakes out there that are meant to fool.

 

As this is outside of my wheelhouse, I wanted to ask for opinions for those who are better educated on these.

 

I like the overall wear pattern.  I have seen several of this type of 'snake' skull ring before which were assessed as genuine.

 

I do not have the ring and had to rely on the sellers' pics.  Ring is marked 835.  Any help or opinion is much appreciated.  Thank you.

The dark patina might raise some alarms but the markings look good to me. Also, on one of the pictures it appears the ring has been modified and/or cut in half and then connected again. It is hard to tell if this is genuine, but to be honest I would stay way unless the seller provided 100% guarantee since there are a lot of fakes out there! Hope this helps.
