mvmhm Posted September 14, 2025 #1 Posted September 14, 2025 A friend's father found this and a Japanese collar tab in a building in Korea in 1946 when he was part of the Army of Occupation. I know the front says "Imperial Army"...but what is written on the reverse? Thanks in advance for the help! Mark sends
Mr. Bushido Posted September 14, 2025 #2 Posted September 14, 2025 Very interesting. This is a participation medal for a special large-scale training exercise conducted by a Japanese military division stationed in Korea in 1935FY. It also reveals that the owner was an infantryman. P.S. Originally, it looks like this item. https://finis.sequile.autos/item-g9qaj7sp1p.html Some of them are different, but the contents are the same, so I think there are some variations.
mvmhm Posted September 14, 2025 Author #3 Posted September 14, 2025 I assume it doesn't give the division number? The other examples I've seen have miniature collar tabs with the division number on them...thanks again for your help! Mark sends
Mr. Bushido Posted September 15, 2025 #4 Posted September 15, 2025 That's a possibility. However, although it is engraved with "【七六】76", it is unclear whether it is an ID or a unit. Personally, I think it is more likely to be the unit number. The reason is that the badge in the URL has the number "74" written as the unit number.
mvmhm Posted September 15, 2025 Author #5 Posted September 15, 2025 Thanks! Mark sends The "76" would have to refer to the 76th Infantry Regiment, of the 19th Infantry Division which was stationed in Korea well before WWII began. Thanks again for the great translation service! Mark sends
