War in Pacific Posted September 28 #1 Posted September 28 Hi all - First I should tell you I'm totally ignorant regarding anything to do with swords & how the latch works. The NCO latch will not work properly unless there is something to raise the latch allowing the handle to connect the scabbard & handle? Currently a strip of rubber is under the catch. I can't imagine it left the factory like this.
Mr. Bushido Posted September 28 #2 Posted September 28 This website is in Japanese, but I think it will be very helpful to you. http://ohmura-study.net/792.html http://ohmura-study.net/793.html
War in Pacific Posted September 28 Author #3 Posted September 28 Great! And thank you Mr. Bushido I appreciate all you've done to help me. I do have a question regarding a name you mentioned which would / could not be on the blade. Is it possible that the text written be added at a later date? Only reason I'm asking is a couple things don't quite add up. I'm thinking the blade was done poorly, or it altering/ removing marks on it. Also, I have a couple of you may find interesting. 1) rules & regulations & procedures... It also has many pages for the soldier to make notes and could use it as a diary. If are interested I could copy some pages for you as soon as I find all, I can copy those as well. Curious to hear if confidence, moral open...
Mr. Bushido Posted September 28 #4 Posted September 28 I don't understand your question very well. Do you mean whether we can add or remove the engraving of the NCO sword? I'm sorry to trouble you, but I don't know much about English.

War in Pacific Posted September 29 Author #6 Posted September 29 I Again I am mortified I posted this. I would never alter any of my pieces. I think think of collectors as the custodians of that part of our history. If this Katana went thru battle then had additional text to it, great. Likewise if it didn't go thru the war it still has a story to tell. It will be a holding place on the wall until it can be replaced as a legitimate Katana (and sold with its storied past)
