I will not claim this is a "transitional" helmet as the decal has been viewed as a repo. Probably repainted black for use in roll play, theatrical etc, but it's been a long time due to the chipping I see. There are remnants of the leather liner stuck in the liner ring. I can't find any makers stamps on the inner skirts. It's just a solid lid. Enjoy.

Am being told by a friend and knowledgeable collector that the decal maybe good and could be considered a "transitional" helmet. Would like members feedback.

Hello!?!?!

Whether or not that is a reproduction decal you have a great looking helmet.  I’m no expert but I think the decal is real. The condition seems to match the helmet age.

Yes, it appears from these pictures that the decal was on there for some time and then painted around.  Not sure why an army helmet would be painted black, though.

Because that’s what kids did to helmets in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
