German WW2 Canteen

Around 40years ago, I acquired this canteen in a trade.  About 10 years ago, I went to remove the canteen from its cover, and this is what I found.  Thoughts?

Given other's I've seen over the years, that looks like a good legit piece.  Great engraving.

Difficult to tell if it was engraved 40 years ago or 80 years ago. That being said, the electric pencil was very popular and affordable in the 1970’s. Lots of kids had them.
