Two are wearing it, France May 1940 the one you can plainly see, with another in the right foreground holding his rifle where you can see the visor of the type. -

Could the stripe be bullion thread that has tarnished? Looks like private first class missing a star and leading private. -

Mike, Thank you for the reply. I totally get the "soak like a sponge" issue. I see a few have sold on ebay, but didn't know if it was worth buying the box to get a decent deal. Like I need more un-sellable surplus in my garage. -

I have 2, a repainted army shell and a green navy missing the insignia. On the army shell, the maker stamp looks like a 5-point star with kanji in it. Daido Steel? The navy green one looks like crossed cannons? Is there a chart somewhere of maker marks? Thanks! -

If I've read the name correctly, the WWI trio is to John Edward Foulds Royal Fusiliers and, later, Labour Corps. A move from an active infantry unit to a support role Corps - such as the Labour Corps - was usually the case for those soldiers who were found to be unfit for front line trench service, particularly the older men. The first image is that of standard British magazine pouches, worn either side of the belt buckle. They were designed for the 20rd 7.62 box magazine used on the L1A1 Self Loading Rifle (SLR), itself a derivative of the Belgian FN FAL. The second is that of a seat of 'kidney pouches', seen here in use as a part of the 58 Pattern webbing system: https://phillosoph.blogspot.com/2017/01/kidney-pouches-and-combat-order.html Whilst reasonably efficient, it was constructed from web material. Consequently, it sucked up water like a sponge and could end up weighing almost half as much again at the end of a few days in the field. Best Mike -

Look at their eyes you can see how they feel. A couple of M-43 caps have their insignia removed too. -
