I was at a massive flea market in Berlin a few weeks ago while on vacation and I could've spent the whole day there. I didn't expect it to be so good, so we only set aside a couple of hours to check it out. There was a section with scores of boxes full of books, documents, photos, you name it. Tons of good DDR era items and even some TR. I was able to find a nice TR era grouping of letters, postcards and photos (one of a soldier) for a family there in Berlin. Not much in value, but very cool all the same. I also found a 1930 Catalog in great condition from Stempel Kaiser there in Berlin, considered the top producer of TR Seals and Rubber Stamps. Apart from the normal business, they produced high level SS seals/stamps and even AH's. Great reference for serious Seal/Stamp collectors.

WOW, super items! I was just in Normandy for the past two weeks and have a new appreciation for battlefield relics. Thanks much for posting!

So having no patience, I took paint thinner and steel wool to the shell and the spray paint melted right off. Unfortunately, the paint covered surface rust so it will need additional work to clean up. I understand these were primed in black?

And I assume the Army shell was repainted with that tan paint. Best way to strip it off?

You got it.  I think Foulds could have been transferred due to combat fatigue.  He was an original in his battalion when it shipped overseas in 1915 and you know how long those infantry guys lasted.  He was a "lucky" one.  His medal card does not show a Silver Wound Badge, so he wasn't wounded at any point.  Thanks for the comments.   -Ski

Two are wearing it, France May 1940 the one you can plainly see, with another in the right foreground  holding his rifle where you can see the visor of the type.

Could the stripe be bullion thread that has tarnished? Looks like private first class missing a star and leading private.

Mike,   Thank you for the reply. I totally get the "soak like a sponge" issue. I see a few have sold on ebay, but didn't know if it was worth buying the box to get a decent deal. Like I need more un-sellable surplus in my garage.
