Not Legion Etrangere. Their colours are green and red plus there is a flame missing on the bomb -

Right. Just buttons. That's the kind of stuff I can get my hands on so that's what I post about so I can contribute where I can. I have seen pictures of British buttons so similar I now think these are British. The enlisted navy buttons don't have a crown so I think British is the right answer. i still want a guide to each country's navy anchor design, though I'm sure each used several over the decades and fewer folks really collect navy. If you rub Formula 409 with a q-tip into a bakelite item, it leaves a mark. -

And there you have it. This regiment appears to have received recruits from different regions of the Rhineland and Westphalia, it was stationed in Alsace as garrison troops since 1871 but did not receive recruits there. -

For those who are really, obsessively detail-oriented, the "kazda" was simply called thusly until the introduction of the plastic laminated helmet made in Israel in order to save money by not buying the American kevlar helmet. The Orlite helmet was called by two names: "kazda" and also "kaplast", a compound word for "Kazda + plastee", ergo the "plastic helmet". Not to be confused with "KAPLAAAA"!!! meaning: "Success" in the Klingon language. Photo of me in Kaplaa, I mean, "kaplast" in 1987...
