I recently acquired this Japanese short sword. It's 24 1/4 inches from top of handle to bottom of the scabbard. It's not pretty, and has seen some abuse. It appears a bad job to "sharpen" it happened as well. The overall length, is 24 1/4 inches from top of handle to bottom of the scabbard. Here are the photos I got from the seller. I can't get the little peg out of the handle and I won't attempt to pry it out. I did contact members on the WMF and here is what I got back. The tang inscription on the sword means "【長州住清重】Choshu-ju-Kiyoshige". Another forum member commented that it looked like a civilian wrap, but looks very old. What I would like to find out is: Possible age and what was its purpose. Appreciation in advance, -

hello, So I do not specialize in Vietnam War items. However, I am pretty sure I have seen a canteen with a blue cap years ago that was a reported bring back. I was told it was a 'medic's canteen' and it was larger in size. I just googled, "north vietnamese medic canteen" under images. One with a blue top does pop up on a dealer's website with a purported Mike Force capture. I did not want to steal the image as it is not mine. But if you google the term in quotes, it can be seen. cheers! -

It was intended at both a bayonet and a trench knife. -

Thanks, that shows the blue cap was available in at least the late 1970's... We're getting warmer I know of that book but haven't been able to source one locally yet. -

I’m not sure about this one seems to be modern made with a WW 2 badge attached, it was against regulations to poke holes in these helmets which is why some badges had slider attachments to fit onto the puggaree. The Black Watch wore a red hackle of feathers on the left side instead of the cap badge. http://www.militarysunhelmets.com/2013/regimental-identity-and-the-20th-century-khaki-helmet -

Looks to me to be a World War Two issue, can’t make out the patch but I don’t think it’s a Seaforth one, could be Cameron’s do you have a better image?
