this is the picture of an M1 Carbine barrel.  It has the Winchester "W" stamped on it lower down.  In the attached picture, near the muzzle there is what looks to like what was stamped as oval perhaps with writing inside.  The barrel belong to a post-ww 2 rebuild that has all usgi ww2 parts.  Can anyone looking at that photo give me any insights as to what it probably is?  Could it be random scratches? any opinions, insights or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Found last Sunday at the flea market for $1. Made out of aluminum and on a brownish string that doesn't glow on UV light. All letters are stamped.

How does the world look at 1991 Gulf War 35 years later?  At the time, UN Sanctioned, Arab nations joined the coalition, Iraq invaded, etc  Seemed like a just war to me at the time.  Now I look at differently.   Gave US jumping off point for Iraq War and further entrenched US in middle east.  What does the world think now? or is it just forgotten? how do historian assess it now with three plus decades of perspective?  any thoughts?

Not for me I am afraid.  The cap does not look like those Luftwaffe Sciffchen I have seen.  Rather sloppily made IMHO.  The crown appears to be sewn together and the bottom opening is squared off instead of having that curved headband area that makes the "little boat" shape.

The 4th Marine Regiment in Okinawa (HQ company at least) has a logo or unit insignia - I'm not sure quite what to call it - with crossed swords over a shield with eagle above it.  Does anyone know where this came from?

With US gear?  I saw the USA stamp on one of his pouches.  Does Indonesia buy its weapons from US?

Has anyone watched the movie Waterloo?  I've always thought that Rod Steigar's portrayal was how i thought him to be - disappointed in the portrayals in the recent Napoleon movie, PBS War and Peace from the 1970's, and other movies/TV series.   I thought Waterloo deserved recognition for its acting, screenplay, cinemtography, everything.  The Russian director Bondarchuk (sp?) has 20,000 extras in uniform.

On a recent trip to the Uk to see family, my uncle gifted me his dads items from his ww2 service.  pins, medals and a vehicle pendent from the 1934 Nuremberg rally, which was very interesting.  he enlisted in sept ‘44 and ended up in north west Europe in early 1945. We think mainly on occupation duties as we haven’t delved into proper records, just piecing together what he had in all the paperwork. Either way, very happy and humbled to have these items and will display them nicely in the future. 😁👍🏻   ps. Smudged out the symbol on flag in case it wasn’t allowed on here.

somebody told me recently that the British poisoned Napoleon while on St. Helena - that they were slipping arsenic into his food.  Is this true?  Does anyone know what the historical record says on that or is this something made up or apocryphal.

This hat is made by Hills Hats Ltd, Wellington New Zealand. The NZ Police uniform changed from black to blue in November 1975, I would date this hat to mid 1980s, but I think the badge style is later (1990s) this photo taken in 2018

what a great collection of items with battle scars!!  Vietnam defeated the US at the height of its power.  To me, those items represent the courage of the Vietnamese people and their fight against a powerful nation that had no business being in Vietnam.
