Thank you for the information and the good search ideas.  We already knew about the CWGC site. We are going to visit his grave in Schotland for the first time in may.

Great to have all the fixings too (Portapee and hangars)...   I really like the color of the handle as well...This burnt orange (pumpkin) color is beautiful..   Leigh

Hi everyone,   My name is Valerio, and I’m writing to you from Italy. My passion for military history is deeply rooted in my family heritage, beginning with the stories of my great-grandfather, who served as an Ardito (the elite storm troops of the Italian Army) during World War I. Knowing he was part of such an iconic elite unit has always made the study of that era feel very personal to me.   I have just started sharing some pieces of my US collection on the USMF, but here I’ll be happy to show and discuss items from other countries, including Italy of course. I’m looking forward to exchanging opinions, diving deeper into the history, and learning from the more experienced collectors in this community.   Best regards, Valerio

Maybe pre war I would of said , and sub stopped somewhere in the Caribbean, like Cuba, the Domivcan Republic et all, on a courtesy call, and these hats were bought for the crew, But we don't believe they made trips like this type, surface ships yes, subs, would say no right, as they wanted their U-Boat fleet kept kinda secret, after  Versailles said no subs.

Thanks for the images.. Nice HJ dagger, HJ diamond inset nicely into the handle,, sometimes these tend to be loose when one tries to pry the emblem out.. Your's looks like it has not been tampered with..   Leigh

A nice DLV with some minor blade issues but the patina on it is just fine, I would not clean it with chemicals, but I would handle this and any other blades with nitrile or cotton cloth gloves. Keeps the oils and dirt from the hands off the blades and leather... and I would not recommend storing the dagger in the scabbard as this is how scratches develop from inserting and removing from the scabbard over and over again...    A very nice example..   Leigh
