Hello everyone. Just picked this up today. The front looks good to me. The back not so much. By my research online I notice they had a different backing. But also thinking maybe this one’s backing came off and this is what’s left? The back says, “A&S” with the number 41.  Not sure what the means. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Thanks. Yeah with some more research I found out the the A&S stand for “Assman und Söhne”. A company that makes the uniforms and of course the button for the German soldiers in WW2.

You can find reprints of the Assman and Sohne catalog for sale, there is one on Amazon for about $25.00.

These are excellent reference books that you can use to see what insignia was made by this company. They supplied insignia to Herr, Kriegsmarine, Luftwaffe and a lot of the Civil organizations of the Third Reich..

A good investment.

I must admit the construction is a bit different on the OP's example compared to the catalog, just an observation,, G
